New Kumme Gondola Lift is Operational

New for the 2020-2021 ski season, the Kumme gondola lift opened last week. Located in the Sunnegga / Rothorn sector, this 10 seater cabin lift has a vertical of 966m and a total length of 3.2 km. It starts near the bottom of the Tuftern run and goes all the way up to Rothorn, giving more efficient and more direct access to a number of ski slopes.

The restaurants in Zermatt have been ordered to close until January 22nd, however many are offering take-aways, including those on the ski slopes, and home delivery in the village. All the more reason to book one of our chalets or apartments with catering, or with a well-equipped kitchen!

The mountain lifts continue to operate normally, and the Cervinia sector is set to open on January 7th.

Zermatt Skiing and Restaurants are Open

The Swiss government maintained its decision that all ski lifts and mountain railways are classified as public transport, so the Zermatt lifts will be open during the the coming season. Just as in buses and trams, passengers will be required to wear a mask, there will be social distancing in the lines, hand sanitizers, and regular disinfection of all surfaces. Additionally, in enclosed cabins and train carriages the number of passengers will be limited to 2/3 of total capacity.

For the time being the Cervinia sector in Italy is closed, probably until early January. However, with more than 200km of runs across three mountain sectors, the Zermatt ski area is still one of the five best in the world.

Furthermore, the Zermatt lift company is offering flexible re-booking for Covid related cancellations, as are we.
