There are over 100 Zermatt restaurants in the village, of which 4 are Michelin starred and 17 are listed by Gault-Millau. Many feature world cuisine. Here are some of our favourite Zermatt Restaurants, grouped into categories. Those places also serving lunch are indicated with an (L). Whether you are staying in one of our gourmet catered or self catered chalets, there is something for everyone to try when eating out.

Gourmet Zermatt Restaurants

After Seven (first floor of the Vernissage / Backstage). 1 Michelin star, a top restaurant led by chef Florian Neubauer and his team. Imaginative, creative, fresh cuisine. Cool setting designed by Heinz Julen. Tel. 027 966 69 70

Ristorante Capri. One Michelin star. On the top floor of the Petit Cervin hotel. Mediterranean cuisine. Good views but perhaps lacking in atmosphere. Tel. 027 966 87 10

Alpine Gourmet Prato Borni. One Michelin star. In the Zermatterhof Grand Hotel. Showcasing products from the Valais, prepared with a new and imaginative twist. Elegant grand setting. Tel. 027 966 66 00

Brasserie Uno. One Michelin star. Creative cuisine, set tasting menu only, casual ambiance. Tel. 079 851 17 68

L’Atelier Grandsire  Our secret gourmet tip! This small restaurant’s French chef is inventive and top notch. High chair / bench seating, tapas sized portions, with a bigger table on the mezzanine for larger parties. Extensive wine list and exquisite desserts. Tel. 027 967 10 00

Potato. Despite its name, an outstanding fine dining restaurant in the main street, with two set menus that change weekly. Tel. +41 27 966 51 50

The Omnia. Modern restaurant in the Omnia Hotel, near the Heinz Julen Loft , Penthouse and Schipfa. Creative and experimental cuisine using the best products available. Tel. 027 966 71 71

1818. Josper grill based cooking, a carefully composed selection of wines and spirits, and a warm Heinz Julen setting and atmosphere. Tel. 027 967 84 84

Cervo Madre Nostra (L) Charming wood panelled restaurant, modern Italian cuisine, large terrace for lunch. Mainly Italian menu. Tel. 027 968 12 12

Chez Heini. Local lamb grilled to perfection (have the racks) and songs by Heini’s son Dan Daniel (AKA Urs). Frida’s (our local Abba resident) favourite. Chic and camp. Tel. 027 967 16 30

Grill le Cervin. Refined French cuisine, charcoal grilled meat and fish, the most extensive and superb wine list in Zermatt. Tel. 027 966 88 88

Veranda and Epicure (both in the hotel Mirabeau). The first has a casual setting in the conservatory, the second is more formal with fine dining. Tel. 027 966 26 60

Swiss / Alpine Zermatt Restaurants

Schäfer Stube (beneath the Hotel Julen). Excellent Zermatt lamb and Swiss fondue specialities. Cosy rustic chalet setting. Tel. 027 966 76 00.

The Julen Restaurant (L) (in the hotel of the same name). Modern Alpine decor, excellent cuisine, and very good value if you take the menu of the day. Tel. 027 966 76 00. Lunch from 12:00-13:30.

Le Gitan (L). Meat and prawn grill, cosy, smart. Tel. 027 968 19 40. The Zermatterstübli is its café at the front on the main street, takes no bookings, serves lunch and food all day.

Le Mazot. Chalet style perennial favourite, escargots, lamb grilled on an open fire.  Tel. 027 966 06 06

Chez Max Julen (under Hotel Beau Rivage). It is a speciality grill restaurant offering meat and fish dishes, served in a rustic yet sophisticated setting. Tel. 027 967 40 44

Old Zermatt (L) (By the church bridge. Newly renovated, with a sunny terrace, good food, and open all day long.  Tel. 027 966 23 88. Lunch all day.

Sonnmatten (L). A scenic 15min walk to the villagey Winkelmatten district; beautifully renovated in post-modern Alpine style, imaginative cuisine based around a set menu. Tel. 027 967 30 30. Lunch 12-14:00; all day on Saturdays and Sundays.

The Pavilion (L) Totally rebuilt for this season and run by the Hotel Post. By the ice skating rink (volley ball in summer) and kids’ playground. The warmest, sunniest and most wind-sheltered terrace in Zermatt. Great spot for a simple lunch in good weather. Now does dinner too.  Lunch all day. Tel. 027 967 36 73

Restaurant du Pont (L) Next to the church square, recently renovated, modern wooden Alpine setting, excellent cheese fondue and other Swiss dishes. Tel. 027 967 4343

Swiss Chalet Just off the main street, an authentic cosy wooden chalet setting. Excellent cheese fondues, as well a meat fondues and other dishes. Tel. 027 967 58 55

Cheese Factory In the Schweizerhof hotel in the main street. Extensive selection of fondues, as well as table-top BBQ. Tel. +41 27 966 00 00

Say Cheese In the cellars of the Zermatterhof hotel, extensive variations on the classic Swiss cheese fondue.

Theodors Stuba (L) (in the Walliserhof Hotel). In the main street. Newly renovated larch wood paneling. Raclettes, fondues and hot stone meats. Tel. 027 966 65 55  Lunch 12-16:00

Ferdinand. The Cervo’s ‘Alpine casual dining’ restaurant. A great space styled like a cool New York café. The menu is limited to cheese fondues and table-top BBQ. Tel. 027 968 12 12

Whymperstube (under the Monte Rosa hotel). Cheese fondue and raclette in a chalet style setting.

La Muña Peruvian-Japanese Pacific fusion cuisine in a stylish Parisian setting. Outstanding. In the Schweizerhof Hotel. Also worth a visit is the buzzy ‘Kitchen’ restaurant in the foyer, with its open fire grill and DJ music. Tel. 027 966 0000

Molino (L). Italian pasta and pizzas in a French brasserie style decor. Big heated terrace. Open from 09:00 to 23:00. Lunch from 12:00 to 15:00, pizzas all day.

Rua Thai and Fuji (Hotel Albana Real). You can choose between a Thai below (lovely traditional Asian wooden decor) and a sizzling Japanese Teppan-Yaki above. Tel. 027 966 61 81

Myoko. The best Japanese in town, relocated to the Schweizerhof. Sushi and Teppan-Yaki .Tel. 027 966 0000

China Garden (L). One of the top-rated Chinese restaurants in Switzerland. Close to the main street. Tel. 027 967 53 23 Lunch 12-14:00.

Golden India (L). Authentic and delicious Indian cuisine, the whole restaurant team is from northern India and the chef from Uttarakhand. Tel. +41 27 458 55 55. Lunch 12:00-15:00.

Cervo Bazaar (L). Moroccan styled with many faces: breakfast spot, cocktail bar, café and restaurant all in one. 100% vegetarian dishes. Tel. 027 968 12 12

Casa Mia (L) by the train station. Excellent authentic Italian food, nice bar and decor, good outside deck. Tel. 027 966 69 69 Lunch 12 -14.00

Da Giuseppe. Good Italian, hard to get a table. Tel. 027 967 13 80

Da Nico (Vieux-Valais). Italian, modern setting, pasta & pizzas. Tel. +41 27 967 20 95 Gluten-free dishes.

Brown Cow (L) (at the Hotel Post). Café / Pub style, burgers and BLT’s. Tel. 027 967 19 31. Lunch all day.

Vivanda (at the Hotel Post). Stylish modern dark wood décor, also good with kids, Italian food ranges from meat to pizza. Tel. 027 967 19 31

Child Friendly / Cheerful Zermatt Restaurants

Grampi’s. In the heart of the main street above Gee’s. Excellent pizza and Italian pastas. Serves food until 1am. Tel. 027 967 77 75

Pizzeria Roma. Run by an Italian family. Good wood fired pizzas and very child friendly. Tel. 027 967 32 29

Pizzeria Klein Matterhorn (L). By the Matterhorn Express, good pizza / pasta and a good Italian red wine list with (unlisted) old vintages. The front wooden panelled room is cosier. Tel. 027 967 01 42. Lunch from 11:30.

The Northwall Bar  Cold beer, good food and a warm atmosphere. Everything you need. Fresh Pizzas, Local Craft Beer and more. Tel. 077 420 31 86

Brown Cow Pub( L) (at the Hotel Post). Local pub food, popular with locals and visitors, all day classic. For kids better during the day than the evening. Tel. 027 967 19 31

Republic. Another seasonnaire spot. Sports bar and grill, specializes in burgers. Tel. 027 967 26 26

Zermatt Delivery. This new service covers 4 restaurants: Rua Thai, Fuji, l’Entrecote and Marie’s Deli. Order online, choose your delivery time slot.

Marie’s Deli. (in the Hotel Mirabeau). Close to the Lodge, Zeus and Zora. Tel. 027 966 26 60. Clever gourmet menu, tasting platters.
