Skiing & Boarding in Zermatt – Overview
Zermatt Ski Vacations
In choosing your skiing accommodation for your European ski vacation it is essential to consider what each resort has to offer. Zermatt has 3 main interconnected ski areas (over 200kms of runs) of its own and is also linked to Cervinia in Italy (another 200kms of runs), together these make up the "Matterhorn Ski Paradise", one of the most exciting ski areas for European ski vacations. Click here for the ski area map to be familiar with the ski area ahead of your Zermatt ski vacation.
The mix of runs is great, scenery is breathtaking, off-piste possibilities are excellent (depending on conditions), skiing accommodation is top notch and mountain restaurants and apres-ski bars are exceptional. Few ski vacations in Europe can match what Zermatt has to offer. The highest lift is at over 3800m giving an impressive vertical drop of over 2200m and snow on the upper runs is guaranteed all year round including in summer!
To make things easy, you may order your ski-pass ahead of your Zermatt ski vacation through us: it will be waiting for you when you get there and won't cost you a penny more! No need to join the new arrival queues at the ticket office... Your passes will be waiting for you in your skiing accommodation on your arrival.
A number of key runs benefit from extensive snow-making equipment to boost snow conditions as needed. Zermatt also has its own terrain park, board-a-cross, halfpipe and cross-country circuit. The formidable lift system minimises waiting times. Our guide can show you the way round all the ski areas and mountain restaurants or, in good conditions, provide you with endless untouched powder snow!
Your pass may include either just Zermatt or both Zermatt & Cervinia providing you with unlimited access to the whole of the matterhorn Ski Paradise domaine, click here for prices.
The new comfortable, coupling 4-seater chairlift with heated seats, connecting Sunnegga paradise with Breitboden via Findeln was opened last season and offers even greater flexibility in planning your ski day. A further change last season was the replacement of the old Stockhorn cable car with a new T-bar lift offering faster "lap times" and really opening up the Stockhorn freeride area. This season, an additional beginners area has also been added just below Sunnega with its own beginner lifts.
The above changes coupled with the recent addition in 2006/2007 of new lifts were a gondola link from Furi to Riffelberg, has perfected the flexibility of the resort giving optimum access to all ski areas and a real ability to ski the entire area without ever returning to the village. On the Italian side, Cervinia and Valtournenche are building 5 new chairlifts, replacing existing tows. This will considerably improve uphill speed, efficiency and comfort.
